In the Geek & Nerd world few Conceptual Artist Illustrator are as well known as Ralph McQuarrie. Born in 1929 in Indiana, United States, he died 4 years ago in 2012 in California with a fruitful career to say the least.
Although he made many Concept Arts in his life for such TV show as Battlestar Galactica (the original show) or movies as Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extraterrestrial or Ron Howard's Cocoon, he is THE conceptual artist behind the Star Wars universe.
In many ways, he was the one fixing the whole visual world we know so well today. Even with the new "Star Wars - The Force Awakens" we still feel the McQuarrie touch he imposed on the original universe. As a proof of this, you will enjoy, in this post, 14 of his original Conceptual Art for Star Wars - Episode IV screened in 1977. Enjoy! May the Force be with you.
