Apple Watch 2 - What Do We Know So Far?

Many rumours are going on in the marvelous world of the Apple Geeks & Nerds. In a preceding post, I was addressing the iPhone 7 leak. In this one I would like to make a really quick view of what we know so far about the main points of the new Apple Watch - Apple Watch 2.

At first it was assumed by many that the new watch would be revealed in March 2016 along with the iPhone 6c and 7. However it seems, now, that the Apple Watch 2 will be pushed further in the year - some insider leak tends to indicate a release between April and September instead.

As a matter of fact, a late report mentioned by GforGames underlined the possibility that Quanta, which manufactures the watch for Apple, would make it enter in trial production phase end of January. If this is really true it would make April 2016 as a possible and potential date for release. However, thinking in a Marketing sense it would make more sense for Apple to release the new watch in June for the WWDC (Woldwide Developer Conference) or September at the Apple Special Event.

Watch

Concerning the watch themselves, Apple is looking into developing new line beside the actual editions available. The tag price of those new line would be between the cheapest actual edition and the most expensive Steel Apple Watch tagged at around $1,300.

Actually, the use of new material like Tungsten, Palladium, Titanium, and even Platinum could explain that some of those expensive high end watch a really for Super Geeks with a big wallet.
Along with new material and new line, a new gadget could make its apparition in the new watch - FaceTime Video giving the ability to the owner to make FaceTime call from their wrist (Hello Dick Tracy).

On the battery side, it is rumoured that Apple is working with LG and Samsung on a new OLED technology as well for their screen opening the possibility to increase the size of the battery which is still one of the main weakness of the Apple Watch. The "all day battery life" as MacWorld calls it is far from practical and even an absolute joke compared to one of its rival Pebble Time Steel which can claim to at least a week of battery life.

Bands

According to 9to5mac it has been told that the update of the watch will include new bands as well. For the Sport Bands multiple new colors will be added, as well as for the Hermes Band. The Milanese Loop will have a black version, and last but not least, a new line of bands made of new material is announced as well.

But beside the color line, what seems to be the most interesting to me is the new concept of a multi-function band. AppleInsider lately discovered a new patent filled by Apple related to a new band technology for their watch named "Magnetic Wristband".

Although we have many converging reports, it is fair to say that it is still difficult to say with absolute certainty what the new generation will be like - more of the same or complete overhaul? Secondly, in a global economy in downward trend, as well as a general slowdown in the spending of people, it is not sure how the new Apple Watch will be received in a field already overstretched by the quantity of available gadgets.

In any case, there will always be Geeks and Nerds to try it on. Geek one day, Geek everyday!
